Welcome to the TLC Counselling Hub’s website we are glad you are here!

Established since 2019 in Andover Hampshire, our award winning Gestalt Counsellor Nicky Bates takes huge pride in the work she does. Nicky works with all sectors of the community and is seeing more and more young people access her services.

So how does Gestalt Counselling help me?

Gestalt therapy is a type of counselling that focuses on the present moment and the individual’s experience of the here and now and the part they play in it. It encourages clients to become aware of their thoughts, feelings, behaviours and take responsibility for their actions.

This type of therapy can be very good for people who are stuck in the past or anxious about the future. It takes a holistic approach, considering the individual as a whole person with a unique set of experiences, thoughts and feelings.

This approach can be particularly helpful with people who are struggling with complex grief, loss, trauma  and interconnected issues.

About

Counsellor
Nicky Bates (MBCAP)

Director & Founder of The TLC Counselling Hub

So, what got me into Counselling?

Having been a qualified nurse for over 20 years, I decided to branch out into counselling as I felt this was where my fundamental skill set lie. I believe that by giving patients a few minutes of my time each day, was better than any medicine that was prescribed for them.

People need to feel valued, people need to feel accepted and they certainly need to feel heard. With the fall out from the catastrophic Covid-19 Pandemic, it seems now more than ever people’s mental health levels are becoming unsurprisingly high!

I decided to set up the TLC Counselling Hub after training for seven years at foundation degree level. The Hub was launched in July 2019 and has gone from strength to strength. I also offer online counselling for people who may find face to face counselling too much. This enables the client to feel calm and relaxed whilst in the comfort of their own home. I’m also happy to meet the pets of the family too!

Making the leap from nurse to counsellor…

I have completed a year and a half voluntary work at Andover Mind, and the Olive Branch Winchester.  I have accrued over 3000 client hours with no one client hour being the same. I offer short and long term therapy depending on your presenting issue.

I have regular fortnightly supervision with a like minded experienced practitioner. This keeps my work ethical, safe and current. I hold  enhanced DBS clearance, full indemnity insurance, whilst also being a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), and the National Counselling Society (NCPS).  I have won tender bids contracts with the local Council and Social Services. Whilst working closely with the Police and Military.

Based in central Andover, I offer a non-judgemental approach built on the pillars of Gestalt and Humanistic theory. What this means is that we work creatively with what is unfolding for you right now. By using creative mediums such as worksheets, mood cards, mini white boards and metaphors it can help unlock issues from the past in often an illuminating way. Working in the here and now I offer a calm relaxing environment. It is your time and space, it is about you and for you to discuss whatever is concerning you at this moment in time. I look forward to you making that first step today!
